About Kellie Mackey

I am a Teacher and a Mum but once my own children got older, (now young adults), I started to experiment a little with different mediums (time for Mum to have some sort of hobby). I have always enjoyed looking at student's artwork in the classroom and I love it when things get messy and creativity flows.  I'm not quite sure if the teachers I relieve for feel the same!   There's a lot of mess!  I get a lot of inspiration from the students unique styles and freedom.  I am a self taught artist and have been working on Art for just over a year, so I'm still a newbie.  I learn a lot from social media and watch many different artists at work, especially on my Instagram page, @thethreefacequeen.  I also have a Facebook Account:  Kellie Mackey NZ Mixed Media Artist.  Feel free to give these pages a like or a follow.  I started with water colour work but found I added too much water and I needed more flow, so I then moved to alcohol ink work.  I now cut up the best parts of these works and create collage style mixed media pieces.  I absolutely love doing my Art but I do still teach so do not produce hundreds of pieces.  I also do not sell prints.  Maybe one day in the future...  My style is always evolving and developing.  I don't follow rules but I'm learning a few which help along the way.  My inspiration now comes from everywhere, it's almost as though creating Art opens up your eyes to the beauty that surrounds you.  It's quite a journey and we are so lucky in NZ to be surrounded by such inspiration.
