Sea Flowers

An acrylic piece of work with lots of texture and blue shimmer.  This piece includes shells, paua pieces and dried flowers and it is very delicate.  I have put some resin on the flowers to protect them a little.

Central Otago Gold - Aerial View

This piece depicts the beautiful currents of water we have in Central Otago.  The gold is plentiful but out of reach.  Many people pan for gold and I see the occasional dredge.  We have gold mines operating around us now with one being in Roxburgh.  The gold in this piece of work is the untouchable kind, it is under those strong currents, it has been there for such a long time and it will still be there in the future.  It is a natural occurrance in a beautiful place.  Back in the day, there were miners living in huts around Central Otago and these huts can still be seen today.  It is always fascinating to me that so much in this area lies beneath the water, Cromwell being the prime example where part of the old town lies underwater.

For this piece, I have used a lot of texture below the surface so this is definately not a flat surface.  I have used black acrylic, gold alcohol ink, a resin top coat and gold and bronze foil pieces.  The rivers are created using poured turquoise wax.  This piece has a stunning shine created using resin.

Gemstone Beach - Riverton

$300

A piece with a lot of elements and texture.  Rain on Gemstone Beach has been done on a large round canvas.  I have used collaged alcohol ink on transparent material for a part of this piece.  There are pieces of paua, wax and coloured sea glass within this piece.  I have used varnish to help the paua and the sea glass to shine.

Rain on Gemstone Beach is a piece of work which I really love.  I have been to Gemstone Beach before when the tide was low.  During our recent visit, the tide was high so I thought I'd create what I thought I'd see under the water if I could.

The canvas is 40cm wide and the predominant colours used are greens and blues.  It's a moody looking piece with some beautiful pops of colour.

My pieces of work are delicate and need to be treated with a lot of care.  I leave the hanging up to you as many of my pieces are rotational and you can decide which way you would like this artwork to sit.  Do let me know if you would like me to put the hanging piece on the back though, I am happy to do this for you.

Sparkling Chocolate Strawberry Swirl

Many of my pieces do their own thing, this piece really just went with it's own flow.  It was initially gold on black, there is a lot of underlying texture in this piece of work.  It has this stupendous name because when I look at it I see melted caramel chocolate.  The gold and copper foil accentuate the texture.  Once I added the bronze foil, the piece decided it would turn brown and once I added the varnish, little cracks appeared on the surface of the varnish which actually adds to it's character.  I'm going to say I didn't have much control over the outcome of this piece, it wanted to do it's own thing.  On the base, I have used 3D modelling paint and beads for texture.  I should really call this piece - I'll do what I want to do and be what I want to be.  Anyway, it's unique and has some gorgeous rich colours and of course oodles of gold and bronze foil.

Little Birdy

Little Birdy is a wee character who is looking for things to eat.

Little Birdy is on a canvas, she has black acrylic edging.  The blue in this work is created using collaged pieces of alcohol ink on transparent material.  She has a periwinkle for an eye and some paua attaching her tail feathers.  Little Birdy is a delicate piece of work, the edging is very textured, made with all sorts of bits and pieces that would usually be thrown out but are reused, bits of dried acrylic, filled with colours/sparkles.  A little acrylic work with some of the border outline and Little Birdy's beak.  There is also a little glitter sprinkled around the border for that extra wee sparkle.
